Williamsburg Winery Bike Ride 6/14/2016

On 14 June, 10 Tuesday Group cyclists started out on a bike ride from Chickahominy Riverfront Park to the Williamsburg Winery. Two riders turned back due to one feeling the “pinch” in joints and having other plans for the day—but they plotted to make it to lunch at the Winery at the appointed time. Three wives of the intrepid Tuesday Groupers also made the trek to the Winery for lunch. The “regulars” really appreciated that the “others” came out for the day—the weather could not have been more perfect. And their company provided the right temperament for the lunch.

Brian, the ride leader, took credit for the weather. He reported that he took the blame for the last ride at 39 degrees and 25 mph winds when very few (and no sane) people showed up. Today really was perfect weather with a high of 79 degrees, low humidity, and a slight breeze and constant sunshine. The eight cyclists who continued for the whole trip were capable and too fast; so we decided to go around the Jamestown Island to add some time and delay our arrival at the Gabriel Archer’s Tavern—our goal was to arrive at 11:30. We arrived at 11:35.

Lunch at the Williamsburg Winery is Disneyesque—they do a great job with service and their food is excellent. We lollygagged and enjoyed the food outside underneath the Wisteria Arbor. Good conversation, good food, and no hurry. This is the perfect Tuesday Group outing—we know why we are there with friends that have interests that interest us and they are willing to share—but not push. On the return ride, Ambassador Bill Billings wanted to view the Glass Blowing Demonstration on the way to Jamestown Island—so, Spanky and Our Gang did just that. We then rode the Cap2Cap Trail back to the Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Spanky (Bill) and others gorged themselves on Ice Cream Sandwiches and walked the grounds—you could tell there was a group that just wanted to be outside with friends—just like kids!!!!

A great day for the Tuesday Group

Brian
