First Landing to Rudee Inlet 11-19-13

Twenty hardy Tuesday Groupers gathered in 50 degree temp and 20 mile-per-hour north winds (with gusts of 25-35 mph) for a ride through First Landing State Park to the boardwalk at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. After the ride through the park and along Oceanfront Avenue, we paused at he oceanside Cavalier Hotel to ponder whether we would attempt the ride down the boardwalk to Rudee Inlet. 20 mph headwinds on the return trip did not seem appealing, but this hardy group decided to go ahead and bike down the boardwalk, then return on the bus-trolley-bike lane on Atlantic Avenue. Although there were some heavy headwinds at times and gusts from the right between the oceanfront hotels, we all made it back relatively unscathed. Upon returning to the 64th street entrance to the park, some of the group decided to bike up the side street along Atlantic Avenue and then take the new bike path along Shore Drive back to our starting point. The remainder of he group returned on the Cape Henry Trail. Upon completion of the ride and burning off all those calories with the headwinds, 16 members of the group replaced some of the calories with lunch at C. P. Shuckers on Shore Drive (with Ellis joining us for lunch!). Total distance on the ride was approximately 20 miles.
