Sandbridge 10-8-13

Well it wasn’t a triathlon but we all had fun on our 20 mile bike ride today. We had 10 show up and brave the strong winds and a chance of rain. We did have the winds but luckily no rain. Dottie was all by herself today as she was the only lady to bike, with 9 guys, what a woman! At times she was in the lead. We had Bill B, Bob S, John F, JP M, Carl A, Ken V, Mark C, Lance and Bruce. The plan was to do 20 miles there in Sandbridge and we had 20.23 miles as we road back into Little Island City Park around 12:45.

Leaving L.I.C. Park we headed right into the north wind and as we turned onto Sandfielder Rd. the sand was blowing across the road and hitting us in the face. At the first street we came to we headed back to Sandpiper Rd. and the going was a lot better. In order to get 20 miles there in Sandbridge we had to ride up and down a lot of dead end streets, but each had a nice circle at the end so we kept right on moving and sometimes we even circled around more than once. I was telling everyone this was the first bike ride that I actually saw everyone and was able to talk to them as we met on each street. From Dam Neck Gate to Back Bay Wildlife Refuge Gate it is only about 6 miles, so we had to come up with about 8 miles and without a GPS it worked out great. Every time we turn south on each road the wind pushed us along where you didn’t need to petal very hard. At Tuna Lane we had a stop on the beach to enjoy the view and the fresh air. As we reached the end of our ride we stopped at Back Bay Wildlife Refuge Gate and Bill took some pictures of the closed gate with not one but two arm guards keeping everyone out of OUR PARK, What’s this world coming too ?

After loading our bikes and telling three goodbye, the other seven headed to Pungo Pizza and had lunch with Marion (Bob’s wife) and Peggy (Carl’s wife) and as always, we all had ice cream (just one scoop) each. I had the furthest to drive and was home by 3:20 another good day with the Tuesdaygroup. Bruce
