This has always been one of our favorite paddles and despite wind and current we had another spectacular day today. We started out with some instruction from our very own ACA certified instructor, Charlie. He gave a nice introduction to properly fitting a PFD as well as additional information on basic paddling safety. We had hoped to practice some strokes and rescues but the water was a bit too choppy. And face it, this group can be like a bunch of toddlers running free in a candy store. No order and no control! Despite the chaos, we managed to have a beautiful paddle. We stayed on the Back Creek side of the islands as it was too windy out on the river. We followed the marsh line, taking a pleasant break on a sandy beach. Then we paddled back across to our lunch beach where we took a longer break to eat. A healthy surf made beaching/launching a bit challenging but everyone managed just fine. After leaving our lunch beach we explored the south shore and ventured into Claxton Creek where we found 2 dead turtles and 2 dead sailboats. Nothing could be done for the turtles but the sailboats might be saved. We paddled back to the put-in, loaded our boats and headed to Sweet Frog for our treat.
Another great day for the Tuesday Group!
