This was a new area for the Tuesday Group to hike in the Newport News City Park. I had 23 hikers and didn’t think we could get that many cars and trucks in the small parking lot there at the Trail Head, so I was on the phone Sunday, and Monday calling people to see if they could carpool with someone else. It worked out well and we had enough room for everyone.
Everyone was there by 9:30 A.M. and we were on our way by 9:45 A.M. Some of the old road pavement was still there in place and this made for an ease hike. I had told the group about an old Electric Box left out somewhere on the trail and the one that spotted it first would win a prize. I am not sure if, being tall, helped Steve C. but he was the first to see the box and sing out, and won the prize of a new Flashlight.
There was a side trail that I took everyone down for a few hundred yards just to check this area out and to take up a little time because we were getting to the restaurant to early for lunch, I had told the owner we wouldn’t be there until 11:45 A.M. and after this extra distance it work out just right.
On this Hike we were hiking through the woods on and an abandon road and through a neighborhood over to Hwy. 17 and the Beachcomber Restaurant. I had talked with the owner a few days earlier and she was sure she could take care of a group this size with no trouble. With this many customers it took a while for everyone to get their food, but it gave us plenty of time to talk and talk we did. We showed pictures from our phones, told lies and stories and jokes to make the time go by. The food was all homemade and I didn’t see a single plate that wasn’t clean to the bottom, and we were out by 1:00 P.M. and heading back to the trail Head. Another great T G outing which you can see in all the great pictures. It was a little over 7 miles with the extra trail I took. Thanks for everyone that made this hike today, I think everyone had a good time and with the break in the middle to eat, no one was too tired. Thanks Bruce

Thanks, Bruce, for discovering a new place to hike and for leading the hike. It was sweet of Sherri to bring Godiva Chocolates to start our trek. The weather was perfect and we had a good turnout.
