The Tuesday Group seems to get hardier and hardier all the time. Hiking 6 miles in 100% rain at 40° two weeks ago is apparently not hardy enough. Today we weathered 22° temperatures and 11° windchill with a 20 mile an hour wind. And 30 people still showed up for a 6+ mile urban hike!
We took the Tide train from Newtown Road to MacArthur Square in downtown Norfolk. Our first hike stop was about 30 minutes to get just a taste of the Hampton Roads Mariners Museum at Nauticus. From there we proceeded past the Pagoda, through Freemason across the footbridge at the Hague and through Ghent to another stop at the Green Life outdoor sports store on 21st St. Then we headed back downtown to have a hearty lunch at the Granby Street Bistro.
We finished with some ice cream and brownies at Steve and Stephanie's before most people boarded the train at the York Street station to get back to their cars before the snowstorm hit. Maybe next time it will be colder and windier and with an ice storm?
