Lake Rudee/Owls Creek 10-12-21

On Oct. 12, Stephanie and Steve led 7 kayaks and 2 canoes (11 people) from Owl’s Creek boat launch on General Booth Blvd. to explore Lake Rudee - a first for the Tuesday Group. Initially, we paddled southeast as far as we could go. Two or three estuarial creeks allowed us to branch off of the lake for several hundred yards each - getting increasingly narrow until we had to turn around. Lots of egrets, ducks and herons. We passed the Aquarium and its zip line before coming in sight of the Ocean Breeze Waterpark. Heading back northeast, we passed the boat launch and proceeded to explore the other end of Lake Rudee. The estuarial creeks on this side of the lake extended north close to a mile with a huge variety of homes and wetlands/marshes. Marti won the prize (tbd) for collecting the most trash, but several boats picked up some. After traversing the lake for about 5-6 miles, we loaded our boats and headed to Waterside Grille on Atlantic Av. for lunch.

We had a rainy start but ended up with a very nice paddle.
