Botanical Gardens 4-22-14 Margaret & Kama

36 Tuesday Groupers met on a perfect spring day today for a 7 mile walk through the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, led by Margaret Pisone and Kama Mitchell. Initially, we worked our way toward the World of Wonders Children's Garden, en route to the Enchanted Forest. In the Enchanted Forest, we spotted a pair of large Black Snakes..Juliet also pointed out the edible plant called “Smilex,” which, in its early stage, tastes something like asparagus.

With the late arrival of spring, the azaleas are just beginning to pop into bloom. It appears to have been a good year for turtles, however, as they were sunning themselves on logs and banks just about everywhere along our walk!

After leaving the forest, we headed back towards the front entrance and the lunch pavilion. Afterwards, we were headed to the garden cafe for selections of ice cream, followed by a stop at the orchid-laden greenhouse, and a walk around Mirror Lake.

In true Tuesday group fashion, we finished with a walk around Friendship Pond, cementing our friendships for many years to come.
