Waller Mill Paddle 11/10/2017

We had an outstanding day on the water today for what likely will be our final paddle of the season. Temperate fall weather turned cold overnight providing day time temperatures in the low 50s and a hefty 15 knot breeze that dropped the temperature even further. But the warmth of the sun and the protected coves of the reservoir made for a very fine day. We had a small intimate group of four today-Don, Sandy, Jack and myself-perhaps due to the switch from our regular Tuesday to a Friday. We left the dock and headed to the western half of the reservoir paddling into the wind but with the sun on our backs. The fall colors on the oaks, poplars and maples were spectacular and we enjoyed a kaleidoscope show of swirling reds, golds and oranges as the leaves danced over our heads with the gusts of wind. We saw quite a few turtles basking on logs trying to warm themselves in the late morning sun. There were kingfishers flitting back and forth and one Great Blue Heron that watched us from he shore. We explored this half of the lake and then spent some time paddling the other half eventually ending up back at the dock for lunch. We considered eating the lunches we had brought with us but opted for a trip to Pierce's Barbecue instead! Another fine day for the Tuesday (on Friday) Group!
