The Tuesday Group enjoyed a perfect weather day once again despite the promise of rain this afternoon. 24 eager cyclists rendezvoused at Jamestown Settlement for our ride on the Capital Trail today. Biking today were: Ellis, Marti, Lance, Jacob, Curt, Sandy, Brian, Sharon, Sherri, Bruce, Margaret, Ed, Stephanie, Steve, Debbie, Bill Bunch, Bill Billings, Kathy, Jack, Jill, Andy, Ania, Ron and me, Phyllis. Temperatures started in the 70s and topped out in the 80s by the time we were done. There was not much wind to speak of (which we were grateful for) but only a gentle breeze that helped to keep the heat at bay. We started the Capital Trail at Milepost 1 as we left Jamestown Settlement and headed northwest along the trail. We passed Chickahominy Riverfront Park and pedaled up and over the Chickahominy River Bridge stopping to admire the river and a lone osprey nest. We continued on to Milepost 10 where we took a short break before heading back to Chickahominy Riverfront Park where we rejoined a few from our group that had opted not to cross over the bridge. Another break ensued (it's the Tuesday Group). Then we gathered ourselves together and headed back to Jamestown Settlement. Some headed home at that point, a few went straight to eat lunch at the picnic tables and a bunch of us continued on to Jamestown Island. Ellis popped a spoke on his bike and had to abandon the island leg but the rest of us carried on. The road was closed to vehicles due to turtle migration but bicycles were allowed. Unfortunately, we didn't see any turtles but we did see a zillion crabs swarming over the mudflats. Creepy. We circled the island and then returned to Jamestown Settlement to eat our lunches. Afterwards, 5 of us ended the day with a trip for double scoops at Brusters! And the rain held off until we were all well on our way home. Another great day for the Tuesday Group!
