On this Tuesday we had a bike ride on the Hwy. 17 biking and hiking trail. I had 18 people to sign –up on the Web page and we had 20 to show. We had Bob S. Bill B, Ken, Ed, Jim, Steve & Stephanie, Diane, Vic & Margaret, Buck, Bruce 3, Richard, John & Jane, Joe, Carol, Kathy, Bruce and Margaret. For our breakfast bunch we had Bill, Bob, Buck, Bruce and Margaret and we all had a good meal and talked for almost an hour. We drove down to the park about 8:45 A.M. and most everyone was there on this windy day with big fluff clouds and warm temp’s but no rain. We had everyone but two and they called to let me know they were at the Bear Parking Lot, didn’t read all the web page and parked about a mile and a half south of us.
We started out around 9:20 A.M. heading south and it wasn’t long before we met the two bikers coming our way. They turn around and we all headed to the Bear for our group picture which Bill wanted to take. Here we had our talk about the ride and everyone stated their name, as we had 4 new people to ride with us. Some of the fast riders wanted to go all the way to the end of the trail and I was only going as far as Balahack Rd. so I told them to bike on and we would meet them there at Balahack Rd. We had 3 stops on the way down and I told a story about the old house there on the trail which was the home of the toll man that collected the money from passing boats back in the early 1800’s and how some people wanted to restore it but cannot raise the money. We met up with the 3 bikers as we turned onto Balahack Rd. and all were together again. We had one more stop at the Church and then we made it to the park there on Benefit Rd. where we had our lunch with about 25 MPH winds, had to hold our PBJ’s so they wouldn’t blow away. We had a contest to see whose bike stayed up but only 5 went down from the strong winds. We were all winners!
We headed back with about 8 miles to go and finish about 1:00 P.M. but sorry we didn’t have ice cream at the Chesapeake Camp Ground, we were 2 weeks early, they don’t get their ice cream till the last week in April. Everyone loaded up their bikes and all headed home but not before we had another great outing with the Tuesday Group. Thanks for everyone that came out on such a beautiful day.
