Nearly two dozen Tuesday Groupers showed up for what turned out to be a beautiful winter weather day for hiking. We enjoyed sunny skies, temperatures in the 50s and gentle breezes for our walk today. Joining in today were: Bruce and Margaret J, Terry and Perry D, Steve Babor, Sharon and Lance, Ellis and Marti, Bruce D, Chris A, Christine W, Bob A, Ron and Sue, Sandy C, Jack S, Jill W, Kevin M, Sharon S, Sherri M, Bob M and me, Phyllis. We began with a leisurely walk down to the beach. The park had recently completed a large conservation effort to protect the shoreline and limit erosion of the cliffs. We were close to low tide and were able to follow the shore for quite a way. Kevin spotted an elusive eagle and everyone looked for shark teeth. After our beach hike we headed back to the Nature Center for a short break and then proceeded to the Taskinas Trail. This trail offers some healthy hills and some beautiful views of Taskinas Creek. The trail itself is in need of some maintenance as the sidehill needs "freshening". We arrived back at the Nature Center a little after noon and lunch. Some had to head home. Some went to Honey Butters in Norge. The rest of us found some sunny spots in the amphitheater to eat with a great view of the York River. Afterwards, 5 of us treated ourselves to ice cream (we hiked 6 miles after all!) at the Norge ice cream shop where we met two of the lunch folks from Honey Butters! The ice cream was well worth the trip with Brown Butter Bourbon Truffle and Candy Bar Overload getting 5 stars! Another great day for the Tuesday group!!
