North Bend Camping Trip

WHAT: 3 NIGHTS OF CAMPING AT BEAUTIFUL NORTH BEND CAMPGROUND IN BOYDTON, VA

WHEN: Arrive Sunday, June 12, leave Wednesday, June 15; three nights of camping on that Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night. Feel free to adjust your stay to be longer or shorter if you want.

WHERE: North Bend Park on Kerr Lake; 64 North Bend Drive, Boydton, VA 23917 (map) ~ 2 ¼ hours from Norfolk.

DESCRIPTION: Camp, hike, bike (both in the park and on the local low traffic roads around the park) and paddle. Several of the sites are on either little beaches or have easy access to water for boat launching. There are also several official swimming beaches (no life guards). We think good sites for this event are #156-163, but you’re free to choose your own. Many of these suggested sites are on the water along a nice little beach area. If you bring your canoe or kayak, you can just park it there during the stay. These are non-electric sites, but for those wanting electricity, there are some nearby. Most sites accommodate 2 tents and up to 6 people; 2 cars. For a fee, you can add another car. We may have some spaces at already reserved sites, so let Stephanie know if you want to share.

Note: if your site is not available when you arrive, you’ll have to pay a $4 day use fee to drive into the campground. Check in time is 3 PM.

You need to make and pay for your own reservation—and cancel it if necessary. The sooner you make your reservation the better chance you have for getting one of suggested sites. Reserve your site at http://www.reserveamerica.com.

The non-electric sites are $20 a night. Cancellation policy: I believe there’s a $10 cancellation fee and maybe forfeiting one night depending when you cancel. Get more info regarding this policy here: http://www.reserveamerica.com/content.do?path=/brands/rec.gov/marketing/nrrsreservationpolicies.html.

NOTE: If you have an Interagency Senior Pass (for those of us over 62), be sure and use it when making your reservation. You can get a 50% discount off your camping fee! Here is more info: http://www.fs.fed.us/passespermits/senior.shtml

Bring canoes/kayaks, bikes, tents, camping gear, flotation devices, games, food for your meals. Sunday evening dinner is on your own, we’ll do a Monday evening potluck so please bring a dish to share and Tuesday evening we can consider going out for pizza. Breakfast and lunches are on your own. There’s a small convenience store for ice and other stuff about 2-3 miles away. Bring your favorite game (we’ll have our game of horseshoes).

SIGN UP BY: no deadline, but you should reserve your site sooner than later to assure availability.

If anyone wants more info, please contact Stephanie at stephaniestringer15@gmail.com or Steve at waldo1089@gmail.com or call—Stephanie - 228-5704. Steve – 359-8868.

Remember to review the park reservation and cancellation policy and then reserve your campsite for the days you want.

Then please let Steve/Stephanie know you’re coming, and what site you’ve selected.
