Our hike today was renamed to Are You a Weenie Hike by Bill Bu because the temperatures were in the low twenties. This was probably the lowest temperature hiking we have done in quite some time.
In spite of the low temperatures, we had thirty-five hikers ready and excited by 9:30. Every time this group gets together you feel the energy of the group no matter what the thermometer says. As we proved today, we have no weenies in the TG.
We began our hike at 9:30 from the Picnic Area Parking lot. Immediately, we started hiking at a fast pace probably to keep warm. Our route today was from the Cape Henry, Cypress Swamp, Bald Cypress and Long Creek Trails ending up at the platform overlooking the entrance to White Hill Lake. We observed shy Bufflehead ducks swimming as we passed, and an unidentified Woodpecker.
Retracing our route back to the Picnic Area we had hiked five miles in about two hours. Jumping in our vehicles we reconvened at CP Shuckers for lunch.
So another special day goes into the books for the TG.
