Rain, wind and cooler temperatures have been our norm for the past week and a half. The weatherman promised sunshine and warmer temperatures for today but that was after his brain had been sucked out by a zombie. We were all duped by the erroneous forecast and so rendezvoused en masse at the Back Creek put-in early on this cloudy dour day. Presenting in long pants, fleece and rain jackets today were Bruce and Margaret J, Vic and Margaret P, Bill B, Mark C (in his brand new Eddyline), Ken, John F, newbie Bob Alexander (who is very tall and happy to help short people with their boats), Laurie, Brian S and Phyllis. We set forth on Back Creek and headed out to the Goodwin Islands. At first, there was no wind and the water was calm. But all that changed when we hit the mouth of Back Creek just before the big fishing boats! Wham! We were hit with 2 to 3 foot waves and wind with a punch! We opted not to go forward and instead turned back. We spent the next few hours exploring the coves, nooks and crannies of Back Creek. There was plenty of "bobbing time", easy gentle paddling and lots of time to catch up with one another on recent trips, books, movies, and how Ellis was doing with his newly cemented L2 vertebrae! We made it back to the dock at noon and decided that lunch on a soggy bench was completely unappealing. So, we headed to Joe and Mimma's Italian Restaurant in Grafton. Everyone had a great meal. Bruce even said that his pizza was better than Pungo Pizza! Imagine that! Afterwards, we had to stop at the AutoZone next door so Bill could demonstrate his prowess sounding the "Call" with a plastic oil funnel---almost as good as his conch shell. What talent! (No, we did not get thrown out of the store.)
Another most excellent day for the Tuesday Group!
