Poem

(Resource Pack 24 +large head)                                                            KEY STAGE 1&2

VISUAL AID:   Plastic parts of the body. i.e.

arms: a pair of large coloured gloves

feet: a large pair of boots or wellies

eyes: plastic eyes on springs falling out of spectacles

ears: plastic ones

brain: a dunce's hat or heavy black specs

heart: a large red cut-out for the headmaster to hold up at the right time

body: there is also a large plastic head which fits onto a pupil's own head.( not essential)

Also needed : a doll, held by someone at the back of the assembly and also a whistle.

Each pupil must indicate which body part they represent by stepping forward and shaking their prop, whenever they hear their body part mentioned. The BODY is a pupil who must run to the doll, to rescue her and bring her to the front.

THE BODY OF CHRIST

I'm the arms, I am strong and able.  I'm the eye I can see far and wide

I'm the brain, I put plans in action.   I'm the feet, I can run, I can hide

I'm the ear it is my job to listen******And I hear someone calling to me!

This eye sees a child in the water, she's in trouble, she's drowning you see!

I, the brain call the body to action(blow whistle) The feet they run with great speed

The body dives into the water(pupil runs to doll)  A very fine rescue indeed!

'BODY' BRINGS BACK THE DOLL

'Did you see how fast I was running?' said the feet to the others with glee.

'Without my great speed she'd be lost now, I'm the greatest of all you can see!'

"NO YOU'RE NOT," SAID BRAIN,"I DID THE THINKING!"

"NO MY EYES SAW THE CHILD IN HER FEAR"

"BUT MY ARMS DID THE LIFTING!" "AND MY FEET DID THE SHIFTING"

"YOU'D BE DEAF IF MY EARS COULDN'T HEAR"

"Aye ! Aye!" Said the brain, I see trouble afoot, let's not pull each other apart"

As the body we're all so important, what keeps us together is heart.

Said feet "I feel a right heel now, I started the argument there,

Don't deserve to be part of this body, kick me out-for that would be fair!"

Said ear, "But you're still a part of us, without you we'd feel oh so blue?

That girl would have drowned, without being found, you see we all had a job to do!"

MORAL

It's important to all work together, show love and respect every day

But this poem is too long and we all need our break, so let's all go outside and play.
