Modern day Cowgill's are an amicable lot of God fearing Christians. We support our troops and believe in the office of the President despite serious policy differences. We believe in the God given inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness here in the greatest country on earth. We believe in small government with minimum intrusion into its constituents lives. MAGA!
Daddy (O.N. Cowgill Sr. b.1915) landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on D-Day. He stood for liberty and freedom just as thousands of others did during that historic event which changed the course of WW2. June 6, 1944 and the American cemeteries in the area remain as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifices and many battles that took place. His two older brothers, Palmer and Bill were also in the fight against the Axis powers. Bill was stationed in the Philippines and Palmer fought in Africa. Daddy's stories and photos are here.
Mr G.T. Cowgill, shown above in the drivers seat is pictured here in front of Cowgill Grocery (c.a. 1915). He was a merchant originally from Davidson County Tn. and provided food and dry goods for the town of Coalberg, Al. (presently known as Fultondale). During the Great Depression they kept the doors open by using the Engel system as currency. Families used the minted coins to purchase groceries and goods. Books were kept as a record of the debt. Mr. W.A. Cowgill is in the back seat, drivers side holding one of the three Cowgill boys.
Genealogy research reveals that one Cowgill and her five sons came over with William Penn and the Quakers. Allegedly we Cowgills are all descendants from one family with roots in the town on Sedbergh England. more...
