"My doctor told me to quit throwing dinner parties for 4 unless there are 3 other people - [sigh]" - Gramps
I've made this a few times and it's super delicious - goes great with Indian dishes like chicken tikka masala and Japanese curry!
From the kitchen of: Mel (melskitchencafe.com)
INGREDIENTS:
3-4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon active dry or instant yeast
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon sugar
melted butter with garlic salt and parsley
INSTRUCTIONS:Warm the milk in the microwave until it is just warm to the touch and pour into a mixer.
Add the yeast and sugar.
After the yeast is activated, add the salt and 2 1/2 C. flour (if the yeast is instant, you don't have to wait to add this to the yeast and sugar mixture)
Mix well until combined.
Gradually add more flour until you make a soft dough that cleans the sides of the bowl.
Knead for 3-5 min.
Place the dough in a greased bowl and let rest at room temperature for 2 hours. (I shortened this to 1 hour by boiling a cup of water in the microwave and then putting the dough in where it's warm and steamy.)
After it has rested and risen, divide the dough into 12 pieces and roll into balls.
Let rest for another 30 min.
Preheat the oven with a baking stone inside to 500 degrees. (This seemed too hot to me, so I reduced it to 425-450, and you might be able to use a cookie sheet... the cooking time might be different though).
After the dough has rested for the second time, roll out or stretch each ball with your hands into a "teardrop" shape. (I do it like I would with scone dough).
Place on the preheated baking stone and bake for 3-5 min... there should be a few brown spots on the top of each piece.
Cool on a cooling rack and brush with the melted butter mixture.
Eat while fresh and warm.
MAKES: 12 pieces
