THIS WAS ALWAYS THE FAVORITE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE RECIPE FOR ME (BRETT). ONE WHICH I MADE MANY MANY TIMES.
From the kitchen of: The Betty Crocker's cookbook
INGREDIENTS:
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flower (If using self-rising flower, omit soda and salt)
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts
1 package (6 oz) chocolate chips. (The actual recipe calls for double this amount. It's an enormous amount of chocolate, and yes, I do love chocolate. You decide how much you want)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Heat oven to 375°.
Mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugars, eggs, vanilla, soda, and salt.
Stir in remaining ingredients.
Drop dough in balls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes, or until light brown.
Note: I think I usually do mine for 12 or so minutes because I make my cookies bigger than the original recipe wants.
MAKES: Oh I've never counted them. The recipe says 7 dozen, but this is way over what it actually makes, unless you make dime-sized cookies like a lame person. Make normal sized cookies. It'll probably give you a ballpark of 2-3 dozen or so.
