Spaetzle
A family favorite when combined with Sauerbraten. We usually quadruple this recipe for feeding the fam. From the kitchen of: Marilyn Groneman
INGREDIENTS: 2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 quarts water (to boil in)
1 teaspoon salt (for water)
2 tablespoons butter, melted
INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix eggs, milk, flour, salt, & pepper
Batter will be THICK
Heat water and tsp salt to boiling
Press batter through Spaetzle press or collander or cake decorating bag a few tablespoons at a time
If you make this often, a spaetzle press is worth the investment
Stir to prevent sticking
Boil until it floats then boil a little bit more (until it's done of course) Maybe 2-4 minutes. ??
Drain.
Pour melted butter on top & mix well.
MAKES: about 4 servings... but who wants just one serving of this...which is why we usually quadruple the recipe. This can also be served just with heated sauerkraut which is a LOT easier to make than sauerbraten. It can also be served with just bacon pieces as shown. Or a mixture of all.
It could probably be served in a number of ways. I like the vinegar taste that sauerbraten or sauerkraut gives it.
