All-Around Vision: Shoggoths are immune to the Blindness status effect when single target effects (such as an eye-jab) occur. In addition, they don't suffer from penalties to their Sight skill checks.
Amphibious: Shoggoths are able to live comfortably both on land and at sea, being able to breathe in both environments.
Maddening Visage: Upon first seeing a shoggoth, characters have an attack against their Mental Defense (at a +11 modifier) and on a successful hit they suffer 2d6 points of sanity damage. You cannot be affected by this ability more than once in a 24 hour time span. The attack bonus is calculated using 10 + Beauty.
Cacophony from the Depths: Voices which weren't meant to be heard by those of this realm emanate from the shoggoth when using this ability. Using this ability costs 4 MP (no Stamina cost) and all creatures able to hear the shoggoth have an attack against Mental Defense (at a +16 modifier), and on a successful hit they suffer 1d8+6 points of sanity damage. If an attack with this ability fails to hit you, you're immune to this ability for the remainder of the encounter. The attack bonus is calculated using 10 + Voice.
Engulf (Tentacle Technique): This functions as the grapple technique except that on a successful hit the opponent starts to become absorbed by the shoggoth. In addition to acting like grapple, they take the shoggoth's bite damage automatically at the beginning of their turn so long as they remain engulfed within the shoggoth. Breaking free from the engulf requires an Contortion check versus the shoggoth's tentacle attack roll, or for an attack roll to deal at least 10 or more damage to their Hit Points.
In order to initiate the engulfment, the shoggoth makes the attack using their tentacles.
Frightening: Some creatures are more horrifying than others, some even bending the very shape and form of reality around them, being terrifying by virtue of their existence rather than any attempt made by them to be as such. Whatever the case may be, this creature causes fear in those who see them. This ability is constantly active (but can be mitigated by the creature if they so choose, nullifying it for 1 hour) and those who are capable of seeing the creature take 2 points of Resolve damage per minute of interaction with the creature outside of combat, and in combat on the first round those engaging the creature as their enemy have an attack (the bonus is determined by creature's Intimidate skill) made against the Mental Defense and upon a hit the opponents suffer 2d6 Resolve and 1d6 Sanity damage. On a miss this is reduced only to a 1d6 Resolve damage.
Lastly, creatures with this ability receive a +5 bonus on all Intimidate checks they make while it's active.
Immunity to the Fear status effect, fear effects, intimidate, or mind-affecting effects makes you immune to this ability.
A mass of inky black sludge with various eyes, mouths, and tentacles extending out from its massive body, shoggoth are most often found near bodies of water or on the sea floor. Their very being often sends others into a psychotic frenzy, running away at the first glimpse they catch of the horror. Although massive, its appearance is deceiving as it is capable of quick movements when it needs to, even more terrifying underwater when the roiling blob is seen careening towards you at high speeds.
