In the far reaches of outer space, no one can hear you scream...
In the world of The Fourth Crusade, outer space within the Milky Way is barren and lifeless. Earth has yet to become technologically advanced within the 1200s AD, and very few places within the Milky Way have reached such a state either. However in the distant future, such a technological state has been reached and because of this; space travel has become prevalent and accessible. Far Reaches allows for players to play in the future despite The Fourth Crusade being designed for adventures within a medieval fantasy world.
Armor and weapons are different within the Far Reaches. Melee weapons do not possess as much usage in the world, being replaced with firearms and other easy to use technological weaponry. Moreover, vehicles have become prevalent as well, allowing more areas of specialization.
Technological Equipment vs. Old Equipment: When calculating one versus another when it comes to technological equipment and old or "archaic" equipment, technological equipment is ultimately much stronger. This is not as drastic or the same as supernatural equipment as even technological gear can be supernatural, however the power difference is considerable.
Technological Weapons deal four times their listed damage against old equipment, and leaves equipment unable to be repaired. Similarly, old weapons divide their damage against technological armor by four.
Currency has mostly been condensed and standardized. No longer are the days of silver and gold, or fiat currencies. A new form of crypto currency known as "Credits" often replace silver and gold in equipment lists abbreviated as "cdt."; converting from gold to credits involves converting everything to silver pieces. Thus 1 sp. = 1 cdt. when doing conversions. However, old equipment (such as a longsword) are incredibly simple and no longer are valuable, their costs are 1/10 of what would be listed. Thus a longsword is normally 70 silver/credits, but because it is so cheap it is worth only 7 credits. (70 multiplied by 0.1)
