Although the image of adventurers leaving everything behind to seek new lands and valuable treasure is common, it often betrays the reality. Most live in a home of one form or another, and tend to and take care of it over the course of their life. Some are homes they grew up in, others are homes they even built themselves, and some are bought by those looking to settle in new lands.
Houses list two prices, their price and their tax. Price is what is paid to be considered the owner of the building while tax is what must be paid if the building is within a township or city. Some countries have different tax policies (or some have none at all) however typically taxes are collected once a month (the same time a character receives their Wealth from their occupation(s)) and the tax is deducted from their money assuming they pay their taxes. Avoiding taxes is potentially dangerous, and may invite the wrath of law enforcement.
Taxes are equal to the price of a building divided by 100.
You can choose to not pay the price of a building however if you do that and only pay the tax you are considered to be renting the building, and continue to do so until you choose to buy it outright or pack your bags and leave.
