Much like weapons, armors can be made from special materials. Each one affects its performance differently from making armors that are too bulky yet offer tons of defense and offering very fast armor made from special materials such as Mithral. Most armor uses iron except for any designated as “Leather”. Because of this, they don’t benefit from the iron material being applied to them.
Reduction of Armor Penalty can only bring an armor piece to a minimum of 0 AP, meaning it doesn’t apply or remove any. DP can be reduced to a minimum of 0 (meaning it grants no protection), and weight to 0 making it effectively weightless.
Defense Points reduced to 0 or lower effectively makes the armor worthless, and instead is free. It isn't considered broken, and is instead considered to be worthless junk.
Halve the Defense Points of armor made from bone, reduce weight and Armor Penalty by 3, and halve the price of bone armor.
Wooden armor increases Defense Points by 10, increase Armor Penalty by 2, and increase weight by 5 lbs. In addition to this, wooden armor takes double damage from fire. Wooden armor is half the price of regular armor.
Armor which isn't already made of leather being made into leather reduce Defense Points by 15, decreases Armor Penalty by 4, and reduces any speed penalties by the armor by 1. Its weight and price are also halved.
Copper armor doesn't modify the Defense Points of the base armor or its weight, however electricity damage goes straight through copper armor, dealing damage directly to the wearer's Hit Points. Copper armor costs 3/4 the price of regular armor of that kind.
Bronze armor decreases Defense Points by 4 but decreases Armor Penalty and weight by 3 each. Bronze armor doesn't modify the price of the base armor piece.
Armor which isn't already made of iron being made into iron increases its Defense Points by 15, increases Armor Penalty by 2, and increases its weight by 8. It also costs an additional 35 Silver.
Steel armor increases Defense Points by 15, increases Armor Penalty by 2, and increases weight by 9 lbs. It also costs an additional 50 Silver.
Golden armor decreases Defense Points by 10, decreases Armor Penalty by 1, and has no change on weight. If you wear a gold piece of armor, you receive a +2 bonus to all Social skill checks, this bonus stacks for each armor location (excluding your shield) which is covered by gold armor (to a maximum of +8 from Head, Body, Arms, and Legs). It also costs an additional 2 Gold and 60 Silver.
Orichalcum armor doesn't change the Defense Points, Armor Penalty, or weight of the armor. It does however grant a +1 bonus to Physical Defense, this bonus stacks for each piece of armor location (not including your shield) which is covered by orichalcum armor (to a maximum of +4 from Head, Body, Arms, and Legs), and costs an additional 1 Gold and 85 Silver.
Aluminum armor reduces Defense Points by 10, reduces Armor Penalty by 2, and is resilient against corrosion. Against acid damage, aluminum armor outright negates the first 10 points of acid damage it would take. Aluminum armor costs an additional 70 Silver.
Silver armor reduces Armor Penalty by 1 but doesn't change Defense Points or weight. However, it possesses the capability to hold magic similar to a silver weapon. Silver armor has a pool of Magic Points just like a character would, using their Defense Points divided by 5 as their maximum MP. You can spend MP (and Stamina equal to half MP spent) to put MP into the armor for it to be siphoned out later, functioning similar to a Rod. Additional silver armor pieces (except shields) add to the maximum armor MP available. Silver armor costs an additional 2 Gold and 15 Silver.
Mithral armor is incredibly light and flexible; reduces Armor Penalty by 3, decreases weight by half, and removes the speed penalty the armor piece may have. It also costs an additional 1 Gold and 10 Silver.
Platinum armor increases Defense Points by 15 and decreases Armor Penalty by 1 but weight remains unchanged. It costs an additional 2 Gold.
Adamantine armor increases Defense Points by 30, increases Armor Penalty by 1, and increases weight by 8 lbs. Once per day adamantine armor can also be banged back into shape and repaired quickly by hand, taking 1 minute of simple repair without tools to recover 1d6+1 Defense Points to the armor piece. When recovering Defense Points to adamantine armor through the use of the Armorsmithing skill, double the DP which would be recovered.
