The Chaos is rumored to be where all of existence began - in the endless expanse of unnatural shapes and unknowable colors beyond the understanding of mere mortals. It is known by many names in various different cultures, however it is generally accepted they are all speaking of the same place; Chaos contains strange fractals shifting, warping, and twisting with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Strange creatures made of the same material as the realm exist, although being able to tell the creatures aren't just more meaningless visuals is difficult without the aid of taking them out of the zone and being able to observe them yourself. Even still, their very being is alien and wears on your mind's sanity - even in short bursts.

Insanity can be caused by staring into the gaping jaws of Chaos, especially with no protection or means of looking away in the event the visuals become too much for you to handle. This insanity is common among mages who ingest high doses of psychedelic substances (such as LSD or DMT) in order to help fuel their magic, or as a means to learn more esoteric knowledge. This madness is called "Chaosblight". It is also encountered when mortals unwittingly enter Chaos if they are lucky enough to be brought back before they succumb to any of the other threats present.
