The ability to not only write accurate maps, but decipher them as well.
Ability Score(s): Precision + Common Sense
Usage: Used to decipher and read maps, as well as draw maps. In order to be able to read words upon a map, Language (Read) of the appropriate language is required while writing a map in a specific language requires Language (Write) of the appropriate language. Otherwise if neither are possessed, the character is able to only draw picture maps and can only decipher the pictures and directions on maps.
Writing or reading your average map requires a DC 25 check to be made. Average maps mark major locations such as capitals and attractions. A good (DC 40) map includes topography and rivers, as well as more towns and cities beyond just the major ones. An excellent map (DC 60) includes every known town, city, and landmark in the region as well as topography, rivers, lakes, and other useful information.
Typical maps are made for regions (such as a Duchy) containing around 3-4 counties and being around the size of Portugal. Maps of an entire country increase the DC by 20, and maps of the world increase the DC by 40.
