Tasting food and drink.
Ability Score(s): Intuition
Usage: Used for discerning flavors or even discerning if something is poisoned or how long it's been spoiled, taste has uses beyond just enjoying one's food.
The ability to discern one taste from another is only a DC 15 check, these tastes corresponding to the different types of tastes; sour, sweet, bitter, savory, and so on. More difficult to determine however is where said taste is coming from, requiring a DC 20 check instead. This will tell you what spice or ingredient was used to elicit the taste in question.
Detecting multiple tastes or ingredients all at once increases the DC of these checks by 5 for each taste/ingredient in question.
Taste can also be used as an opposed check against an ingested poison's attack versus Bodily Defense, avoiding taking too much to harm you and being able to tell the food has been poisoned. Beating the poison's attack by 10 or more means you also know the kind of poison used.
Determining the age of food or drink can also be done through taste, determining how rotten something is or how much it has been aged (such as with wine). Detecting the age of food through taste is a DC 30 whereas determining the age of a drink is DC 25. This increases by 5 for each year it is aged by
