Substances which violently attack the body with toxins, leading to injury or even death. Poisons are afflictions which can be created artificially with alchemy, herbalism, or even harvested from the venom sac of creatures.
Applying poison to a weapon is a rather quick and easy action, only taking 2 Stamina to perform, and mixing it into food or drink can be done as well outside of combat.
Poisons come in a couple varieties, their types being categorized by the method they are delivered in; injury, ingestion, contact, or inhalation.
Injury
These poisons are delivered by being applied to a weapon or being released from the venom sac of a creature's natural attacks. Injury poisons are categorized by how quickly they act, being able to enter the bloodstream quicker than other kinds of poisons. Injury poisons however can only affect a target if it deals Hit Point damage to them, thus if Defense Points would reduce the damage and leave Hit Points untouched the poison doesn't affect the target.
Ingestion
Poisons which must be taken orally, these are often mixed into the drinks or foods of unsuspecting victims or taken as-is as a means of suicide. Characters must be able to eat or drink (and benefit from doing so) to be able to be affected by these poisons.
Contact
Delivered by absorbing through the victim's skin, contact poisons are often insidious in that they can be deadly in only small amounts coming in contact with skin.
Inhalation
Inhalation is the last type of poison, and are absorbed through a victim's lungs if they end up breathing the poison in.
Referenced in the description of poisons, poison damage involves the poison wracking the target's body, dealing damage directly to Hit Points. Contact poisons only ever deal damage to a body, never affecting armor or other objects.
