Red Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

This week we will review the Red Words above, eye, it’s. Our new Red Words are always, brother, and other. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words, and they do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Pattern Focus

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week will be learning about –ck. C and k say (ck) separately and together. When they are together, as in black, they are usually at the end of a word. They never appear together at the beginning of a word. When you have a (k) sound after a short vowel in a one-syllable word, it is usually spelled with ck.

We will practice spelling and writing words with the -ck pattern throughout the week. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will also be expected to apply this pattern to additional words on their Friday spelling test.
