Spelling Information for the Week of November 26 to November 30, 2018 Dear Parents,

Practice the Red Words buy, often, and sign for Friday's Spelling test.

Please note: Next week we will have our “Red Word Review” test that you may begin studying for at this time. The words are as follows: always, brother, other, sister, knew, were, yellow, should, their, sign, buy, often.

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Red Word Focus

Our 2nd Quarter red words for this week are buy, often, and sign. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for these red words.

Green Word Focus

Our “Green Word” pattern focus for the week will be the vowel digraph “oo” which has two ways of pronunciation, “oo” as in hoot and “oo” as in good. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “oo” and “oo” words on their Friday spelling test.

Reading Focus

Our Guided Reading focus will be Miss Holly is Too Jolly, a realistic fiction by Dan Gutman, in the series, My Weird School. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Please note that our weekly spelling test will be on Friday, November 30, 2018.
