Reading: Reading: Please read for homework and document the name of the book and minutes read on the planner. Please make sure your child is reading 15 to 20 minutes each evening, Monday through Thursday. A parent signature is also required.

Spelling Information for the Week of September 17, 2018 to September 21, 2018
Dear Parents,
Our spelling words this week will include a review of all second grade first quarter Red Words and the Green Word spelling pattern for –ng and –nk endings.
Red Words
“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.
We will review all 1st quarter 2nd grade Red Words for a final test.

Green Words
This week our “Green Word” focus will be learning about syllable division regarding words with –ng and –nk endings. If –ng or –nk appear between two vowels with another consonant, treat it as one consonant. The students will be learning the following combinations of sounds: -ink,
-ank, -onk, -unk, -ang, -ing, -ong, and –ung. These endings are taught to simplify the breaking down of words for spelling and reading.
Homework:
Please write each 1st Quarter 2nd Grade Red Word three times each for homework. Return the completed spelling practice on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, September 21, 2018.
