Spelling Information for the Week of December 3 to December 7, 2018
Dear Parents,
RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
Red Word Focus
Our Red Words for this week are our 3rd Quarter Review Red Words. They are always, brother, other, sister, knew, were, yellow, should, their, sign, buy, and often. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.
Green Word Focus
We have two “Green Word” patterns for the week. Our first Green Word pattern is the diphthong ou as in cloud or ouch. Our second Green Word pattern is ew as in few or ew as in grew. Students will be given words that contain these two patterns throughout the week.
Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “ou” and “ew” words on their Friday spelling test.
Reading Focus
Our Guided Reading focus will continue to be Miss Holly is Too Jolly, a realistic fiction by Dan Gutman, in the series, My Weird School. Our vocabulary words for the text are as follows: translate, pageant, intermission, exchange, clone, Menorah, herd, toupee, rehearsal, and transplant. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7
