Dear Parents,

Homework: Write the 1st quarter and 2nd quarter red words 3 times each for homework.

This homework is due on Thursday, January 5, 2017.

Green Word Study for the Week of January 4 – January 6

This week we will be studying the diphthong “ou” as in cloud. “If I gently pinch you, you will say ‘ouch.’ When I pinch the w off the ow, add a u after the o, it still says ‘ou.’ Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “Green Word” pattern words on their Spelling test on Friday, January 6, 2017. This test will not include 1st and 2nd quarter review red words.

Red Word Study and Green Word Study for a final test on January 12, 2017

Please continue to review all 1st quarter and 2nd quarter Red Words for a final test on January 12, 2017. These words are as follows: 2nd quarter - many, also, black, these, why, around, don’t push, its, it’s, eye, and above; 1st quarter – each, call, goes, pull, girl, white, talk, friend, which, and very. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

In addition to review Red Words, we will review and test all 2nd quarter Green Word patterns on the January 12, 2017 spelling test. The Green Word patterns are as follows: ph (phone), ck (black), ee (tree), ay (play), oe (toe), oo (zoo), oo (good), ew (grew & few), ou (cloud), and syllable type-open, closed, and magic-e.
