Document your nightly reading on the blue, "Right to Read Fit Body, Fit Mind" reading goal sheet.

Reading: Please note that our nightly reading will need to be documented on the blue sheet of paper that corresponds to our "Right to Read Fit Body, Fit Mind" reading goal sheet.

Please complete nightly reading for Monday through Thursday, with a signature for each evening. No required reading for Friday or the weekend.

Math:

Spelling: Spelling test tomorrow over the 4th quarter Red Words almost, does, eight, father, part, and floor; Review dictation sheets for "igh," these three letters make one sound, long i, as in light and night.

Spelling Information for the Week of March 9, 2020 to March 13, 2020

Dear Parents,

Red Words: 4th Quarter Red Words - almost, does, eight, father, part, floor

Red Word Focus

Our Red Word test this week will once again be over the new 4th Quarter Red Words. The words are as follows: almost, does, eight, father, part, and floor. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Students will have these words on their Friday spelling test for the final week to show mastery.

Green Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be learning that the three letters represented as “ighmake one sound—(igh) as in light. Students will complete activities for words that contain this pattern throughout the week. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “igh” words on their Friday, March 13th, spelling test.

Reading Focus

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.3

Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.5

Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.

Guided Reading Groups – We will continue our reading of our two new texts that are centered around the Iditarod race in Alaska. At the present time, our chosen mushers and dog teams are mushing across the great state of Alaska. The fictional story titled, “Silver,” and the Magic Tree House Merlin Missions #26, “Balto of the New Dawn” will be our Guided Reading material for the remainder of the week. Our writing focus will be opinion writing, writing to persuade (W.2.1), and our grammar focus will be plural nouns. (CCSS.ELA-L2.1C). We will also be writing a biography pertaining to our musher that was chosen for the Iditarod.

Please note that our final spelling test will be on Friday, March 6, 2020.
