Reading: Read on a nightly basis. Document the time spent reading, title of the book, and a parent signature Monday through Thursday.

Vocabulary test on Friday for all three books, Balto of the Blue Dawn, Silver, or Dog Diaries, Togo.

Math Homework: Tiered Choice Board - Complete one box each night, Monday through Thursday. You may complete the boxes vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

Spelling: HOMEWORK: Review Green Word Pattern dictation sheets and Red Words than, full, and much for a spelling test on Friday.

Spelling Information for the Week of March 4, 2019 to March 8, 2019

Dear Parents,

Red Word Focus

The Red Words for the week will be 3rd Grade, 1st Quarter Red Words. This is our second week for the Red Words full, than, and much. The words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Students will take a test over these Red Words on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Green Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be a review of our 1st through 3rd quarter “bossy r,” r-Controlled vowels. The vowel teams for this week are as follows: ir, er, ur, ar, or. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more words on their Friday, March 8, 2019, spelling test.

Reading Focus

Our reading focus will be the famous dogsledding race, the Iditarod, and the history associated with this event. The students will be reading one of the following selections: Balto of the Blue Dawn, Silver, or Dog Diaries, Togo. (CCSS.ELA-ITERACY.RL.2.3) Students will complete a book study during Guided Reading time each day. Our writing focus will continue to be opinion writing (CCSS. ELA-W2.1), and our grammar focus will be identifying and applying pronouns and reflexive pronouns into our writing. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.1.C

On Friday, March 8, 2019, the spelling test will include the Red Words, full, than, and much and the Green Word Pattern “bossy r” and r-Controlled vowels, ir, er, ur, ar, and or.
