Spelling Information for the Week of November 6, 2017 to November 10, 2017
Dear Parents,
Red Word Focus
Our 2nd Quarter red words once again for this week are many, its, and also. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for these red words.
Green Word Focus
RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
Our “Green Word” pattern focus for the week will once again be learning about vowel teams. Our two vowel teams are ay and oe. The vowel team ay says long a, and the vowel team oe says long o. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “ay” and “oe” words on their Friday spelling test.
Vocabulary Focus
Our spelling test will also include the vocabulary words board and bored from our new realistic fiction reading text, “Miss Daisy is Crazy!” We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7
Please note that our final spelling test will be on Friday, November 10, 2017.
