Reading: Reading: Reading: Please read for homework and document the name of the book and minutes read on the planner. Please make sure your child is reading 15 to 20 minutes each evening, Monday through Thursday. A parent signature is also required.

Spelling Information for the Week of October 1, 2018 to October 5, 2018

Dear Parents,

Our spelling words this week will include the next three 2^nd Quarter Red Words for 2^nd Grade, these, why, and around. The review Red Words are many, also, and black, and the Green Word spelling pattern will be “open” and “closed” syllables.

Red Words

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.

New 2^nd Quarter 2^nd Grade Red Words: these, why, around

Review 2^nd Quarter 2^nd Grade Red Words: many, also, black

We will continue to review our three second grade red words, many, also, and black. Each student must receive a 100 percent on these three second grade red words for two weeks in a row to show mastery and receive a final grade.

Green Words

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” focus this week will be learning about “open” and “closed” syllables building background for syllabication with detached syllables. We will practice identifying “open” and “closed” syllables within words on dictation sheets during class.

Homework:

Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, October 5, 2018.
