Weekly Focus Information for October 12, 2020 to October 15, 2020

Dear Parents,

This week we will only have a “Green Word Pattern” spelling test list because of the four day week.

Green Word Pattern RF.2.3

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week will be the vowel team (digraph) “ai.” Vowel teams (digraphs) are often introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” The vowel team “ai” says long a as in the word mail. Students will be expected to apply this information to ten “ai” words on their Friday spelling test. Students will be practicing “ai” words on dictation pages. Please practice these words as your child brings them home. Weekly spelling test words will come from these dictation pages. Students will also be asked to apply his/her knowledge of the “ai” pattern on several other words not found on the dictated pages.

Please note that this week’s spelling test will be on Thursday, October 15, 2020 and will only include the Green word Pattern, ai, words.

Reading – RL.2.5, RL.2.7/Writing – W2.3

We will continue to practice and identify the characters, setting, and plot (BME) for various books within our Leveled Readers during our Guided Reading activities. Our writing focus will continue to include narrative writing activities.

Math – 2.MD.1 Measure and estimate lengths in standard units (2.MD.1-2.MD.4)

We will continue our study of Module 1, and we will be working on understanding concepts of the ruler. Tonight's homework is Lesson 2.

Science/Social Studies – Government 2.10, 2.12

We will review our “PAX Vision,” “PAX Leader,” “PAZ Quiet,” and “PAX Stix” kernels in and out of the classroom. Our new review of PAX kernels will be “PAX Tootles” and “PAX Spleems.”
