Reading: The 3rd Reading Log is due this Friday. Students must complete the reading of their chapter book and return the signed 3rd Reading Log to school by Friday, May 13. The final book report/project (4th Reading Log) is due by Monday, May 16, 2016.

Book Project Ideas!

Pick one item for your project. All projects must include the title of the book, the name of the author, and your name somewhere on the project or the poster. The project is due on Monday, May 16, 2016.

  1. Comic Strip Draw and color an 8-slide comic strip that depicts at least 8 main events in your story. You must include dialogue in at least 4 of the boxes and include a caption for each picture. Present your comic strip on a poster to be displayed in the hall.

2. Collage Put together a collage of the story using magazine pictures. Describe 8 pictures minimum. Present your work on a poster to be displayed in the hall.

  1. Time Line Make a time line of the major events in the book you read. Be sure the divisions on the time line reflect the time period in the plot. Use drawings or magazine cutouts to illustrate events along the timeline. You will present this to the class, taking us through time - event by event, for more marks. The Time Line should be completed on a poster to be displayed in the hall.

  2. Book Jacket Make a new book jacket for your book. Include a picture, title, and a summary for the inside flap. The book jacket must be the size of a small cereal box.

5. Top 10 List You must have a Top 10 Reasons to Read This Book, but the other 1 choice may be Top 10 Interesting Facts About the Characters, Top 10 favorite Quotes from the Book, or Top 10 Interesting Facts About the Author. You should make your lists on a p

Spelling Information for the Week of May 9 – May 13, 2016

Dear Parents,

Red Words

It is time for the end-of-the year Red Word assessment. This week we will be reviewing all of the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter Red Words. The Red Words are as follows:

always, sister, yellow, sign, almost, father, sure, page, brother, knew, should, buy, does, part, ghost, shoe, other, were, their, often, eight, floor, oil, tear

Green Words

This week our focus will be on the tion ending which is the most frequent spelling of /shun/. When your child sees a tion word they can . . .

    1. Cut off the ending with a red pencil or with the “rule of thumb.”

    2. Read the word.

Please practice the words on the Tuesday and Wednesday dictation pages that contain the tion ending. The dictation sheets will come home in your son/daughter’s folder. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages and words that have a similar tion pattern.

Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, May 13, 2016.

6. Photo Album Make a picture photo album. Each picture must have a caption describing a scene from the book. You may draw the pictures or even take actual pictures that pertain to the scenes in the book!

7. ABC Book Make an alphabet book with each letter of the alphabet telling something about the characters or story. You will need to include the title of the book, the author of the book, and the illustrator of the book. Don’t forget your name.

8. Game Design a fun game with at least 15 questions that have to do with the story. There must be rules, and a way to win.

9. Cereal Box Story Map Take an empty cereal box and cover all the sides. On the front of the box use magazine pictures, photographs, a photocopy of the book, or your own hand drawing of the cover of your book. On one side of the box include the names of the characters and the setting (where and when). On the other side of the box explain to someone why they should read this book. On the back of the box write the story plot, beginning, middle, and end.

10. T-Shirt Book Report Use a plain t-shirt of any color and turn it into your book report. Write on the t-shirt and fill the shirt with details from the book. Add pictures that you have drawn or painted. Glue things on it that represent the book. Don’t forget to include

the title of the book, the author of the book, and your name. Write and color everywhere!
