Spelling Information for the Week of March 13, 2017, to March 17, 2017

Dear Parents,

Green Word Study

This week our “Green Word” focus will be the review of our vowel digraphs, ee, oa, ea, ai, oe, and ay, also referred to as “Vowel Teams.” The digraphs are often introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go wlaking, the first one does the talking.”

Please practice the vowel digraphs or “vowel team” words that your child brings home on activity pages and dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from these pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to fifteen or more “vowel team” words on their Friday, March 17th spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will include the new reading vocabulary words amateurs, granite, treacherous, and deserted. These vocabulary words are from our new realistic fiction book, Stone Fox. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Red Word Study

Our red words for the week will be our second quarter red words. All of these words will also be on the Friday spelling test. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

Please note that our final spelling test for all words will be on Friday, March 17, 2017.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp
