Reading: Fluency sheet for specified students.

Read for 15 to 20 minutes each evening. Make sure you are writing down in your planner the title of the book and how many pages and/or minutes that you read. There is a special area on the planner page for this information to be recorded.

Math: Google Classroom; Module 3, Module 3 Review

Reading:

Don't forget to complete the "Google Classroom" vocabulary section on your Epic - Kwanzaa - Google Document (*write the word feast in a sentence referring to the definition found within the Google Document).

Spelling: Please note - The spelling test will now be on Friday, December 18th.

Spelling test on Friday over the Red Words eye and above, as well as, Green Word pattern words that contain "ou."

Weekly Focus Information for the Week of December 14, 2020 to December 18, 2020

Dear Parents,

Spelling:

This week our 2nd Quarter, second grade “Red Words” will be eye and above. Our new Green Word Pattern” phonics lesson will be the diphthong “ou” as in ouch.

Red Words RF.2.3

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.

Our next two Red Words will be as follows: eye and above. We will once again study these words throughout the week before we have our weekly spelling test.

The final grade for these words will be on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

Homework:

Please write each of the Red Words three times each on the paper provided for Monday night’s homework and write each Red Word in a sentence using COPS.

Green Word Pattern Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be diphthong ou - /ow/ as in ouch. Students will be given words that contain this ou pattern throughout the week. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “ou” words on their Friday spelling test.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.2

Identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.

Review - CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.1

Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

Reading

The students will complete the readings of the nonfiction texts and online material regarding “Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.” We will also continue to practice the focus standard RI.2.1, ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how, to demonstrate understanding of key details in an informational text. We will continue to read other selections regarding our theme of “Christmas Around the Word, Holidays and Traditions.” Our writing focus will continue to be informational writing activities within our reading and science studies. Math

2.NBT.2 Finding 1, 10, and 100 More or Less than a Number

We will continue our Module 3 lesson activities this week. Our focus will be finding 1, 10, and 100 more or less than a number within lessons 19 – 21. On Thursday, we will have our Post Test for Module 3, Lessons 1 – 21.

Science/Social Studies –

Our Science focus will continue to be force and motion. We will be conducting experiments in the classroom and completing a “science journal.”
