Spelling Information for the Week of October 28, 2019 to November 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

HOMEWORK: Write each Red Word and Vocabulary Word 5 times each for Monday’s homework. (why, many, around, also, black, these)

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Red Word Focus

Our 2nd Quarter red words for this week are the review for why, many, around, also, black, and these. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Focus

Our “Green Word” pattern focus for the week will be learning about the digraph, ph—that is, two letters together that make one sound. The ph stands for the same sound as the letter f /f/. The /f/ sound in the daily dictated words should be spelled with ph.

Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all class-room information to ten or more “ph” words on their Friday spelling test.

Reading Focus

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.1

Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

We will complete our reading of the text, “Freckle Juice,” within our whole group Guided Reading activities. We will take a comprehension test and a vocabulary test over the selection on Wednesday.

Homework:

Please write each Red Word five times each for homework. Return the completed spelling practice on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp
