Reading: Read on a nightly basis. Document the time spent reading, title of the book, and a parent signature Monday through Thursday.

Math: Tiered Choice Board - Make one choice daily to connect four vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

Spelling Homework: Write each 4th Quarter Review Red Word 2 times each for Tuesday’s homework.

HOMEWORK: Write each 4th Quarter Review Red Word 2 times each for Tuesday’s homework.

Red Words: always, brother, other, sister, knew, were, yellow, should, their, sign, buy, often, almost, does, eight, father, part, floor, sure, ghost, oil, page, shoe, tear

Red Word Focus

The Red Words for the week will be a review of all 4th quarter words. The words are as follows: always, brother, other, sister, knew, were, yellow, should, their, sign, buy, often, almost, does, eight, father, part, floor, sure, ghost, oil, page, shoe, and tear. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Students will take a final test over these Red Words on Friday, February 22, 2019.

Green Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be open, closed, and magic-e two syllable words. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more open, closed, and magic-e two syllable words on their Friday, February 22, 2019, spelling test.

Reading Focus

Our reading focus will be the famous dog sledding race, the Iditarod, and the history associated with this event. The students will be reading one of the following selections: Balto of the Blue Dawn, Silver, or Dog Diaries, Togo. (CCSS.ELA-ITERACY.RL.2.3) Students will complete a book study during Guided Reading time each day. Our writing focus will continue to be opinion writing (CCSS. ELA-W2.1), and our grammar focus will be forming and using frequently occurring irregular plural nouns. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.1.B

On Friday, February 22, 2019, the spelling test will include all of the 4th quarter Red Words and Green Word Patterns “open, closed, and magic-e two syllable words.”
