Homework for Wednesday, October 2, 2014

Post date: Oct 01, 2014 8:55:15 PM

This week students will begin by learning about consonant blends. Unlike the digraphs (ch-, sh-, wh-, th-) where the two letters make one sound, each sound of a blend is heard, but the sounds are blended together. Your child will use the practiced words in class to identify consonant blends within words on the Friday spelling test. Review the "l" blend dictation papers to identify initial consonant blends that will be present in the green words on the spelling test on Friday.

Once again, your son/daughter will be required to spell three more “red words” on his/her final spelling test on Friday. Our red words for the week are friend, floor, and ghost. As a class the students will continue to practice words on our “Word Wall.”

Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, October 3, 2014.

Red Words: friend, floor, ghost

Green Words: April, May, June, July, Sunday, singular, plural, February (We need to review this one again as a whole class.)

Math: Lesson 1 Module 2

We are starting Math Module 2 this week. There is an informative letter in your child's take-home folder explaining what we will be learning in the classroom. Our main focus will be on measurement. Please read over this letter and continue to save all practice sets and homework activities for the end-of-the module assessment.

Reading: Reading Logs

*Homeward Bound books - please read on a nightly basis. Students are required to read these books at home. Each student needs to turn in 2 reading log sheets per Interim, and a total of 4 reading log sheets per report card. Your child will receive a grade for turning in his/her completed reading logs.

Social Studies:

We completed our "Mrs. Arp's Birthday Timeline" today in class.

Spelling: Practice spelling red words and green words on a nightly basis.
