Weekly Focus Information for the Week of November 16, 2020 to November 20, 2020

Dear Parents,

Spelling:

This week we will review and have our formative assessment for the 2nd Quarter “Red Words” many, also, and black. Our new Green Word Pattern” phonics lesson will be –k and –ck.

Red Words RF.2.3

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.

Our first three review 2nd quarter Red Words will be as follows: black, also, many. We will once again study these words for the week before we have a formative assessment.

The final grade for these words will be on Friday, November 20, 2020.

Homework:

Green Word Pattern Focus

Our “Green Word” pattern focus for the week will be learning about ck and k. C and k say (ck) separately and together. When they are together, as in black, they are usually at the end of a word. They never appear together at the beginning of a word. When you hear the (k) sound after a short vowel in a one-syllable word, it is usually spelled with ck.

Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all class-room information to ten or more “ck” words and “k” words on their Friday spelling test.
