Information for the Week of November 7, 2016 to November 11, 2016

Dear Parents,

Green Word Study

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week will be learning about –ck. C and k say (ck) separately and together. When they are together, as in black, they are usually at the end of a word. They never appear together at the beginning of a word. When you have a (k) sound after a short vowel in a one-syllable word, it is usually spelled with ck.

We will practice spelling and writing words with the ck during class each day. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to words on their Friday spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the reading vocabulary words circumference, diameter, thermometer, and veteran. from our reading text, “Miss Daisy is Crazy!”

Red Word Study

Our two new red words will be the words around and don’t. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. If your child did not receive a 100 percent on the words these and why, please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for these red words.

Please note that our final spelling test will be on Friday, November 11, 2016.

HOMEWORK: Write each red word and vocabulary word 5 times each for Tuesday’s homework. (around, don’t, circumference, diameter, thermometer, veteran)

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp
