Spelling Information for the Week of October 30, 2017 to November 2, 2017

Dear Parents,

HOMEWORK: Write each Red Word and Vocabulary Word 5 times each for Monday’s homework. (many, also, its, villain, impostor)

Red Word Focus

Our two new 2nd quarter red words are many, its, and also. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for these red words.

Green Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern focus for the week will be the vowel digraph, ee, as in see and meet, also referred to as a “vowel team.” The concept of the vowel team “ee” may be introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “ee” words on their Thursday spelling test.

Vocabulary Focus

Our spelling test will also include the vocabulary words villain and impostor from our new realistic fiction reading text, “Miss Daisy is Crazy!” We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Please note that our final spelling test will be on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Thank you,
