Spelling Information for the Week of October 10, 2016 to October 14, 2016

Dear Parents,

Green Word Study

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week focuses on the suffix -ed. When something happened some time ago, whether it was a long time ago or “a moment ago,” you usually add ed to the action or verb. The ed may be pronounced short i, ( i ), ( d ), or ( t ).

We will practice spelling and writing words with the suffix ending –ed during class each day. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more ed words on their Friday spelling test. Students will have to identify if the word ends with the short i, ( i ), ( d ), or ( t ).

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the reading vocabulary words arithmetic and combination.

Red Word Study

This week will be our review test for all ten first quarter red words. These red words are as follows: each, call, goes, pull, girl, white, talk, friend, which, and very. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

This will be the last week to master the red words which and very. Please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for these red words.

Please note that our final spelling test will be on Friday, October 14, 2016.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp
