Weekly Focus Information for the week of November 2, 2020 to November 6, 2020

Dear Parents,

Spelling:

This week we will have a first quarter “Red Word” review test and a “Green Word Pattern” review test.

Red Words RF.2.3

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.

Our 2nd grade Red Words will be all of the first quarter Red Words. They are as follows: each, call, goes, pull, girl, white, talk, friend, which, and very.

The final grade for these words will be on Friday, November 6, 2020.

Green Word Pattern RF.2.3

Our “Green Word” focus this week will be a review of the vowel teams ai, ea, and oa. Please practice the activity sheets and dictation sheets that will be sent home this week. Students will be expected to apply this information to ten or more “ai,” “ea,” or “oa” words on their Friday spelling test.

Reading – RL.2.1, RL.2.5, RL.2.7/Writing – W2.3

We will continue to practice and identify the characters, setting, and plot (BME) for various books within our Leveled Readers during our Guided Reading activities. Our focus standard for the week, however, will be RI.2.1, ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in an informational text. We will also be looking at text features within our new book selections. Our writing focus will continue to include narrative writing activities.

Math – 2.MD.1 Measure and estimate lengths in standard units (2.MD.1-2.MD.4)

MODULE 3 - PLACE VALUE, COUNTING, AND COMPARISON OF NUMBERS TO 1,000

We will complete our Eureka Module 2 lessons this week with our End-of-the Module Assessment on Tuesday. We will begin our Module 3 studies on Thursday with a Pre-Test on Wednesday.

We will review our “PAX Vision,” PAX Leader,” “PAZ Quiet,” and “PAX Stix” kernels in and out of the classroom. Our new review of PAX kernels will be “PAX Tootles” and “PAX Spleems.”
