HOMEWORK

Math: Homework, Lesson 14, Module 3

Spelling: Please write the following Red Words 5 times each for homework: don't, push, its, it's, eye, and above. The homework is due on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Our Green Word pattern for the week is oo as in hook and hoot.

Reading: Nightly reading for 15 to 20 minutes with a parent signature, Monday through Thursday.

Spelling Information for the Week of November 18, 2019 to November 22, 2019

Dear Parents,

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

Red Word Focus

This week we will review the six Red Words we have been studying for the past two weeks. Our Red Words will be don’t, push, its, it’s, eye, and above. All students will have these six words on their Friday Red Word spelling test. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words, and they do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Pattern Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern focus for the week will be the vowel digraph “oo” which has two ways of pronunciation, “oo” as in hoot and “oo” as in good. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “oo” and “oo” words on their Friday spelling test.

Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.5

Know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.7

Explain how specific images (e.g., a diagram showing how a machine works) contribute to and clarify a text.

Throughout the week, the students will complete activities to identify text and graphic features, as well as, facts regarding the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. The students will identify various text and graphic features within the selections, “Pilgrims” and “What Was The First Thanksgiving,

Homework:

Please write each Red Word five times each for homework. Return the completed spelling practice on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, November 22, 2019. The spelling test will include the Red Words don’t, push, its, it’s, eye, and above and the Green Word Pattern oo as in hoot and hook.
